The Room of Pleasure is Empty is based on the team’s documented life experiences and original texts. The performance is the result of a two-year laboratory process exploring the human inner stage in relation to the Uncanny. The capital of the unconscious becomes the object of dramatic exploration, reinterpretation, enactment. We invite the darkest side of the soul onto the stage. We manifest those encapsulated and rejected desires that seek their way to appear in reality through distorted manipulative fetishized actions. There, body abuse, guilt, and self-abasement lead to the unattainable end of the human unconscious projected into the space of the Empty Room.

ABOUT

We perform painful fragments of our own life experience in an attempt to reenact the emotional legacy of our ancestors. Dramaturgically we open four rooms – the Room of Pleasure, the Room of the Child, the Room of the Mother, the Room of the Father, where we explore archetypal images from family constellations.

Each of us recognizes painful and unbearable scenes from our childhood; we search and explore the essence of the child we once were. Pain unfolds before the eyes of the audience and invites their own interpretation. Through catharsis, we seek to re-bond ourselves and feel whole again. Will we be able to open our own rooms and return back into ourselves, and to return our senses to the desired? Will we learn pleasure again? The alleviation at the end comes from acknowledging that we are imperfect and the feeling that we are still here – alive!
